Inter-dog aggression: Teaching 'peace' in a multi-dog household
In this video I am teaching Poppy specifically, that he does not need to bully Ready and push in when she gets treats. The premise is that reinforcement is plentiful and there is no need for survival instincts to come into play. This video show the process mid-way to completion. Previous steps were to teach them how to stay on their mats (starting out close together then moving apart slowly), then treating each with a 1:1 ratio while saying their names. Once Poppy stopped, reaching over to grab at Ready's treat during the 1:1 ration sessions, and could remain focused on me when I gave Ready a treat, I began saying Ready's name and giving Poppy the treat and vise versa. The next step in the process is when this video was taken. I am intermittently reinforcing one dog more than the other at random times in order to proof the behavior. In this video I happen to be reinforcing Ready more than Poppy but rest assured in the next set Poppy got more than Ready :p.
